Evaluation:

The song is about a third person perspective of another person being "controlled by wires" just like a marionette. Dark and depressive themes with a rather sinister tone are what the song is about. I'd say that the second half of the video suit the theme and tones a whole lot more than the first half. The video doesn't appear to have a narrative structure but focuses on the performance aspect of music videos. There are some sections of the video where it has a direct relationship with the lyrics. At 00:44 it is edited on the lyric "Straight to hell" and the environment changes from the woods to a foggy field and night.

The editing of the video is within the tempo of the music at all times. However, there are some places where the editing feels as if its a few frames before or after the beat. The video doesn't have an "explicit" relationship with the music, although there are some parts where it tries to have the same effect. As said before the tone is quite sinister and the character seen should be shrouded in mystery, so the visuals towards the end are reflecting the tone. The imagery matches the theme and tone effectively and there is not a moment where the viewer shouldn't see the video as anything but sinister.

The genre of the music is a sort if hybrid between indie rock and pop. To name another music piece that the audience will be using for expectations of the genre and also an inspiration for this music video is "ego - scruffpuppie". Ego has a lot of long extended shots to convey the feel of the video. It also includes a scene where the character is in a pitch black room singing to the camera. The Wires video took inspiration from this had therefore has an entire segment of night shots to fit with the audiences expectations.

This music video does not have a standard amount of close ups from the performer as there is only 1 shot where the performer shows his face for a true close-up the rest of the times a mask if covering their face. I doubt any objectification will be happening with the performer. The performer is always wearing a mask and this is so that he can be represented as a mysterious guy, almost "faceless", recording a candid video with sinister lyrics.

Voyeurism doesn't have a large part within this music video. The only part of the video that you could argue were voyeurism is the part where he is close to the camera singing, lip-syncing, to the lyrics...

His mask resembles the mask of the ones in the movies around "The Purge". The influence of "The Purge" masks makes me think that this guy is going to commit a crime and the mask is the embodiment of that action with or without the movies.
